September 2019

    Show Your Images:

Members are invited to submit up to 4 photographs each to show to the group. Shots from previous club sessions (location shoots, workshops, model nights etc) are encouraged (intended to show members that did not attend what they missed out on) but not a requirement!

We also encourage "before and after" shots (can be before and after for all 4, or just 1 or 2 of them if you wish) with the photographer giving a summary of what went into the post processing - intended to inspire others into taking a "good" photograph and making it "great" with a bit of post production.

Be prepared to talk about your submissions, why you took the shot, how you set it up, kit used, settings used, post processing etc.

Also, if you would like some constructive criticism, let us know when we put the image up and see if we can generate some conversation around the image.

To streamline the event on the night, please send your images to worknight@thewdcc.org.uk a week prior to the event. If you wish the images shown in a particular order, please number them. If you are unable to send them in advance, I can accept them on the night, but they may not be shown depending on how many were submitted by email in advance.

  • Monday 21 October 2019 - 19:30-21:30

Club Competition 3 - "Still Life":

Our third club competition of the year and the theme is "Still Life". Your photograph can be on any subject you wish, colour or black and white, but the compositional style should be that of still life.

The most common definition of a still life is - a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically with a focus on household objects, flowers, or fruits with commonplace objects which are either natural or man-made contrasting with these in texture, such as bowls and glassware.

Points scored count towards the Photographer Of The Year competition

Please see the current competition rules for information on how to size and name your images, and we also have some general tips, and advice on mounting your images.

Please note that images must be handed to the competition secretary Ian Sprott at the meeting before the competition (Monday 7th October), and digital images must be submitted by email to competitions@thewdcc.org.uk before midnight that same day.

November 2019
  • Monday 04 November 2019 - 19:30-21:30

    Outdoor Workshop - Light Painting:

Join us for a group session learning tips and tricks for taking outdoor shots at night utilising flash and light painting techniques for some interesting effects. Please bring your camera along, and tripods will be useful for long exposures. If you have a flash (speedlite) bring that along too as I'm sure you will be able to make use of it.

Please note that the event is weather dependant and in case of inclement weather this will be an indoor event which will restrict the use of fireworks/sparklers.

  • Monday 18 November 2019 - 19:30-21:30

    Studio Night - Model:

Session 1 - 7:15pm - 8:15pm (please note earlier than usual start time)
    Session 2 - 8:30pm - 9:30pm

Please note that this is a split session, and members are requested only to attend their respective booking slot, and not remain in the room during the other slot. Members for the second slot should not arrive before 8:15pm (or should wait in the bar if they do so). This is a courtesy for the photographers and model as space is limited.

Each session is limited to 12 members so booking is essential. Please ensure that if you wish to take part you reply to Dave's message on Facebook, or email him directly at snappyviking@gmail.com stating which session you would prefer, and indicating if you can do either to enable him to create a running order.

We will be joined by a model who will pose for us. Off camera flash setup will be provided - you just need to bring your camera along. Everyone on the session will be guaranteed 4 minutes of personal time with the model. This doesn't sound a lot, but trust me when you are standing there with camera in hand trying to think of a something different to the other 11 photographers in the room, 4 minutes can seem like an eternity! Experienced members will be on hand to assist and guide.

December 2019
  • Monday 02 December 2019 - 19:30-21:30

    Guest Speaker - Alf Myers:

Preston based photographer Alf Myers will be visiting us to talk about "Street Photography". As you can see from the images on his website he is very skilled in the are of street photography, which he describes a "finding the exciting within the mundane".

"Everyday we walk around our towns and cities but rarely looking at what goes by. That fleeting moment, that glance, that moment.... for most unseen or forgotten. For a street photographer, it is our drive to make images that tell the story of our times."

"These images provide a artistic view or our world and at the same time documents our times for future generations."
